Getting to Pontedera
Pontedera sits at the heart of Tuscany, on the Pisa–Florence route: easy to reach by train, car and plane.
By train
The Pontedera–Casciana Terme station is on the regional Pisa–Florence line: Pisa Centrale in ~20 min, Florence SMN in ~1 hour, with frequent services. The station is a few minutes' walk from the centre.
By car
Take the Pontedera exit on the FI-PI-LI expressway (Florence–Pisa–Livorno), free and fast. About 40–50 minutes from both Florence and Pisa. Parking is available near the centre and the station.
By plane
Pisa Galileo Galilei airport is ~25 km away (~30 min). It is linked to central Pisa by the "Pisamover" people-mover, then a train to Pontedera. Florence Peretola airport is also about an hour away.
Getting around the area
- Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Empoli: very easy by train from Pontedera station.
- Volterra: a car is best (~40 min); alternatively train to Saline di Volterra + bus.
- Valdera villages (Lari, Peccioli, Casciana Terme, Vicopisano): a car is recommended for flexibility; some bus connections run from the centre.
